What options are there apart from mounting optilocks to the sako 75/85etc dovetails.
is it worth getting a piccatinny rail and then separate rings , (in 30mm)?

A egw rail and Warner runs well be cheaper than optilocks. I just got done optilocks for my tikka as we couldn't get screws to mount the rail because it's an early t3 with queer thread pitch.
But the optilocks look good
Just got the rifle back last night

Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Leupold do mounts for them
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
iv got the leupold 30mm sako mounts, they run about 160 from reloaders auckland, optilocks more or similar second hand,
I dunno if talley makes rings for them but id look to them if they did
the other two options are heavier, the leupold mounts are nice looking and steel, they are just not light weights. neither are the optilock
I wouldnt get a weaver rail put on unless you wanted a 34 or 35mm tube scope or something specialised like a massive objective.
warne I think may make them too, iv got a pair in 1 inch that I got second hand,
Thanks, and im using a 6-24x50 sightron if that helps, a fitted piccatinny rail from the gunsmith im told is about 200$
If you can use a 2 piece mount like the optilock or leupold then it will be easy to top load the mag. the sako 75 and 85 are good for that so dont give it up lightly.
a rail does give the most flexibility for fore and aft movement but you may not need it.
a rail adds inevitable height so unless your obj lens is 56 or more often some height is wasted. you need careful arithmetic to check this. then if your sight line is high you will need a raised cheekpiece. then you cant get your cleaning rod in unless its a detachachable cheekpiece. less and less elegant ...
detachable picatinny rails for sako tapered dovetail are made by MAK roedale and weaver.
Mark at Waitaki Engineering made and fitted this for mine, rock solid.
