    Scopes with small ocular lens

Currently looking for a scope with a small ocular lens. It's for a Ruger M77/22M. Bolt throw is pretty darn close to the rings. I imagine a Leupold VX freedom would be about the right size, but just wondering if anyone knows of any other scopes that have a similar size ocular lens? Ideally something in the 3-12 range

Any of the vx1,2,3s will work with the smaller eye box. Not the vx5,6 or vxr
    I have a vx1 3-9x40 on my 77/44 with no issues

The freedom seem to have the same small eye box too

I'm pretty sure there is a strong correlation between the ocular diameter and the FOV but your priority is obviously getting one that fits.

Yeah. I could potentially go higher rings, but then that brings in it's own set of problems

Maybe you'll need a cheek riser/pad but once you get it you also get to adjust it perfectly for your head. With the bare factory stock it's pot luck that usually works .... mainly ... OK.

Raise the scope and you get clear bolt travel (both past the scope ocular and also safely away from your eyeball). Also less hot barrel mirage issues (especially a problem with a big, hot suppressor).

Also if your target is so far out that a scope is necessary then the height of scope above bore axis just extends your point blank max/min range.

But for up close targets, high scopes can cause difficulties, but these are hardly insurMOUNTable....

I never found anything better than Leupold for my 77/22 if you want to keep a low mount. The ring spacing on the 77/22 requires quite a long tube or long eye relief unless you tend to crawl the stock. That rules out a whole bunch of scopes regardless of ocular diameter.
Edit: Unless you change away from Ruger factory rings.

The other option is Weaver V9 3-9x38.

And getting ruger rings is an expensive prick for shit quality machining.

Not quite what you asked for but but older gloss Burris HBR 6x with target turrets is the smallest ocular in my cave.

you can get rails for them if you wanted to go away from the ruger rings

Not for the 22s etc I don't think as the ring heights are different in the centre fire calibres.
