Throw a VX6 3-18 into the mix? Thoughts
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

More $, glass not as good and no dail on windage, still very good scopes. I've had them both and would still go HD5 for glass.

I would look for a 2nd hand Nightforce nxs since reliability is very important to you ,if buying new I would get the new Bushnell lrhs 4.5-18×44 the glass on these is amazing 30mm tube zero stop dialable
optics talk forum rave about them.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 SFP MRAD on my .300 win mag and its great, clicks very solid awesome zero stop great reticle. I would say its more of a target/gong bashing scope though its definitely a bit tacticool. If I had the money at the time I would have probably gone for the Zeiss. Wasn't keen on the Nightforce as the optics were worse than the Vortex to my eyes.

@JoshC I was in this boat earlier in the year - after something to go on the 7RM and looking <$2k.

I definitely agree with @sparky1000 re. the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50. Was bloody surprised when I looked through it the first time having just looked through the VX6... didn't pick the leupold back up after that. I was outside Guncity in Frankton looking up towards the remarks and there was just no comparison. Definitely worth picking one up for a look. I had looked through the HD5 at the same time and preferred the Vortex's glass but the Zeiss' weight (the 6-24x50 is F@#$'n huge!).

In saying that, I ended up going with a swaro Z5 for $2.3k, buying locally, which I was pretty darn happy with. The swaro glass was definitely a cut above the rest on comparison.

On a side note, I've just got some Lowa Hunter GTX's in from the states (remarkably still 2/3 the price if you look hard enough, even with the exchange rates right now) and was stung by customs. The letter they sent me had a nice little reminder note on it talking about how the limit is now $60 for GST (as opposed to the old $450?) and they're now checking twice as many parcels as they used to. That's the first time I've been stung.

That $60 should only be for clothing and clothing accessories I think

Ive got a cheap Vortex and the glass in it is 10 times better than my Bushnell. Would buy a Vortex again over anything, great value for money.

Don't get hung up on comparing scopes in bright sunshine , if you think a vortex pst is better glass wise compared to a vx6 zeiss hd5 nightforce sightron s3, I suggest you need to go to an optometrist.
