    Seeking feedback about the NZ rifle scope market/product offerings

    Hi all,

    I am a long standing forum member who has been interested in the NZ hunting/shooting market and what products we all like to use, with a particular interest in rifle scopes.
    I have been passively collecting thoughts/information about the New Zealand hunting/shooting market for years and would now like to try get some hard data to back up what I think hunter/shooters are saying.

    With the Moderators approval (Gimp) I am asking forum members to compete a couple of surveys to see what their thoughts are.
    The two surveys are:
    General NZ market survey (your thought's on the rifle scope market in general): https://tally.so/r/mYJ4Dq
    Rifle scope builder (basically a tool to "create" your dream rifle scope): https://tally.so/r/npJDxV

    These surveys have been created on a website called Talley (hence the Link).
    They do not collect any personal data, and I have not asked for any names, forum names, DOB etc. They are entirely anonymous and there is no requirement to log in/create an account etc.

    They should only take a few minutes each (unless you want to add a lot of comments) so shouldn't take up too much time, and are fairly straight forward.
    If you don't want to complete them feel free to use this thread instead to add responses/thoughts.

    Thank you for your time.

    Should also mention that I do not represent any company (NZ or overseas), or interest group.
    At this point it is entirely for my own interest, however I may be able to use the information to approach optic companies and get them to introduce products better suited to the NZ market (if applicable).

    Feel free to share the surveys if you'd like, however perhaps don't post them to any large Facebook hunting groups.

    I know what i want;

    Think Nightforce nxs 2.5-10x42
    But with the following changes;

    A high end of 14 or 15 mag
    Same MOAR reticle but with a central dot aiming point, and only that illuminated
    Same awesome tactile elevation turret
    Capped windage turret
    Slightly better glass

    Looks like I should've included an option for preferred tube size. Quite a few people wanting more 1" scope options.

    I see a lot of people have view the thread but not many have filled out the surveys.
    If people don't want to do the surveys feel free to just post any thoughts in this thread.

    Although the scope builder survey in particular would be great for people to complete.

    Done the scope builder for you.

    Essentially, a second focal plane capped, 2.5-12x 44 or 50, illuminated dot mil dot with the best low light performance available for an under 2 grand price tag. Under 620grams, Not too bothered about mil or MOA, but think we will probably move to Mil anyway.

    2.5-12x44/50. Boone and crocket or Delta 4asb type reticle with centre dot daylight visible illumination.(Not any other part of reticle). 1/4 moa thick reticle subtensions similar to boone and crockett or delta 4asb. 30mm tube ok but make the turrets capped and very low profile(not great sticky out ones that expose to damage). Leaupold type warrenty. Longish tube to provide versatile mounting positioning covering long and short actions . Good glass. Water, shock, fog, proof. Not too heavy. Internal bubble option. My comments refer to hunting gp scope only. Exterior finish dull black, brown, red or green. Eye relief > 100mm. Front lens body threaded for sunshade. Price <$nz 2000. 00

    I'm a little surprised by how many people want a scope in the 2-12 that is lightweight, good glass, SFP and preferably 1" tube. I'd have thought there were more than enough options in this area.
    Either people are just stating that this is what their dream scope is and thankfully is already available, or they aren't entirely happy with the offerings from Swaro, Leupold, etc.

    For my part, I figured you were wanting to know what people are looking for. The scope described is a good all rounder. Capable from close too reasonably long range. Simple and efficient to use.

    I think the new swaro Z5+ 3.5-18 BT might be close to the perfect hunting scope.High quality,dialing turret, low weight,plenty of mag for longer range if needed,reasonble price.

    Budget is the biggie, a lot of us are never going to pay $1K plus for a hunting scope as we have other bills. Both my scopes are second hand in the 3-9x40 size and cost less than $400. I'm unlikely to ever attempt a shot on game beyond 200m so they do all that's needed.
