    Sherman calibers

    Hey all.

I run a model 7 in 7saum and had a look down the the barrel with thr bore scope the other day. Looks horrible in there. That's the issue with bore scopes, you suddenly start judging your rifle.
Anyways, the may in the model 7 is short and 162gr pills are a long way in the case.
The Sherman is shorter by 2mmish.
Does anyone here run a 7mm or 6.5 Sherman?

My thoughts are if it's not shooting well stick a new barrel on. Saums are seating depth tolerable. Doesn't look as cool but they get the job done!

How do they feed from a model 7 ? That is the question.
They are just an ackley improved version of modern cartridges. So nothing revolutionary. But the good thing is that dies, reamers and components are more or less available off the shelf…. In the USA at least .

The saum feeds pretty good. Center feed would be better than internal stagger box.

I had a 7mm WSM that I had built about 15 years ago on a Borden short action. The stock and barrel were getting a bit tired and it was so light that it just wasn’t that pleasant to shoot.

I’ve breathed new life into it by turning it into a 6.5SST. The case length is far more suited to SA than any of the SAAMI offerings. It’s getting the finishing touches at the GS this week.

Any cartridge (like most of the AI chamberings bar the 280AI) that requires fire-forming is defunct now due to component prices.

Something that does not take factory ammo is equally pointless.

The 7-6.5 PRC will kick it's head in any day of the week!

You could say most calibers out there are pointless. Personal choice really.....

You’d be surprised at how many people are still ordering custom wildcat chamber reamers, and they still go through the whole fire forming process…. They must be rich or stupid , but they are certainly still passionate.

    Exactly.

ADG fully formed brass is available for most of the Sherman offerings.

The Sherman’s have quite a following in USA. We seem to have the attitude here in NZ that unless it’s a Tikka and in a calibre with readily available Factory ammo- it’s a waste of money. How boring!

7mm Sherman short in a short action would be cool, saum style cartridge, what could go wrong. You just pay a bit extra for brass dies and reamers. I’d say do it and report back.
