@BRADS Shipping firearms is now closer to $80-$100 through dealer to dealer network (depending on the dealer) and H&F charges $100 to ship it and often $35-$50 to collect it...$60 incl case is a bargain....

I’ve carried the bolt in carry on several times under instruction from the check in staff. No problem.

Bolt and or ammo in suitcase/checked luggage. Firearm in locked hardcase easy as that. Always pays to check in very early incase the check in staff have no idea .......which is quite often the case. Can't speak for Jetstar but always had no trouble with Quantas and Air NZ

I just picked up two 22s from H+F this morning. cost $50 for the bloke to send them BOTH across the strait to me, cost me nothing at my end. In fact H+F were great, they rang me when it came in, wanted to open the package to insure no damage was done on their behalf. Great job Pukekohe H+F !

It's my experience that when you walk into the airport with a gun hardcase over your shoulder someone magically appears to politely ask if you need help.

As someone that has flown around the world just a couple of times. Done a lot of travel with firearms for hunting this is what I’ve found.
Your airline may tell you one thing. Which you may even get in writing, be that email or hard copy.
The last say in the matter will be with the airport security!
It dose not matter 1 jot if the airline tell you to do it this way! If that security guard on the day says do it the other that’s where you will be, doing as he/she says.
When I flew back from the uk to nz I needed to jump through a few hoops to get there with two rifles.
One a BLR. Was very nearly sunk at Heathrow T3 as the security staff member wanted me to take the bolt out so that they could see if there was a round in the chamber lucky I was being walked through by a guy from T5 who had come over on request as they did not have many staff who new about civil gun travel. What I heard that morning made me cringe! They had no clue what so ever about firearms and what the airlines asked for safe travel.
When I got to NZ it was almost just as bad! The airline staff told me that I would need to pick them up from a security guard! Nope they where just lying on a conveyor belt!
If you do want to fly with them. Do exactly as said above! Turn up early have a hard lockable case! Bolt in a bag that goes in the hold and ammo in same bag if you only have one or in the other! Security even asked me to have this in a separate locked container out side of the suitcase (guy from T5 talked em out of that one thank god)
I took my scope on as carry on but not even sure if that was a good idea.

A few don’t or maybe can’ts! You can’t call for a supervisor or the security guards boss. I can see you all now saying why not? The reason is that it’s down to the security person on each bag whether they let it through or not! They can ask for help. But you can’t demand it! As it’s seen as possible corrosion.
