I ordered a scope from Tract back at the start of August . According to tracking it left The US on the 8th of August and has been in transit ever since. Is this normal?

Depends on the courier, UPS is pretty quick around a week-ten days, USPS express not so much, like two to three + times as long, plus or minus customs both ends

Some of my parcels toured all of Asia pacific region for 4 weeks before landing in nz
I had a scope come from The Optic Zone last week arrive in 6 days and that's to my rural delivery address!
Similar experience. Had one go via Lima Peru. Another got to Sydney, then went to New Caledonia where it sat for 2 weeks. Mate had one go via Japan. And these were all pre covid. I guess if they end up on a cargo plane that may be normal travel.
Generally though, they came within 2 weeks direct with the longest part of the trip being once they arrived in Auckland.
Recently bought stuff from Temu and Sofirn in China. All 3 items arrived in 5 days, plus were free shipping.
Good old Murphy. It's turned up in NZ. Pending release from Customs.
Hopefully I don't have to pay a bribe.
You shouldn't pay a bribe but you may have to pay GST.
Shipping times from the US have always been variable especially with UPS.
I was importing projectiles. Each carton could spend upto a month waiting to get onto a plane.
If I was lucky the plane headed in this direction.
Once had a parcel that went on a european adventure. Supplier replaced it. 6 months later it landed back at the supplier.
Best was 3 weeks door to door including a couple of days with NZ Customs.
What is the landed value?
If over a grand all sorts of things kick in. Pre purchasing did you run it through What's My Duty?
Here's what happens if you go over a grand, and it includes getting a Customs Number and bio fees.
You won't have to pay duty.
Sometimes items come through unmolested but I'd say that's getting real rare.
The Tract Toric I'm keen on is US$1495 so it will set off all of below.

I got a scope sent to me early July with usps.
It cleared us customs, and was just about to leave LA when it got shipped back to sender. Reason: bloody useless NZ customs had not updated their website page and still had the information from 2019 when a permit was required for pretty much everything including a scope.
USPS decided to return the package to sender . And they felt they had done their part of the deal so I lost $us140 of shipping on that one!
I complained to NZ customs, and they , since having received my complaint ,changed their web page , but when asking them for financial compensation, they would not take responsibility for it. As any bureaucratic department, they are great at taking your money but struggle to cough it out when they do the f..k up.
I ordered a hydraulic arbour press off 21st Century. It made it as far as Chicago at which time USPS suspended my class of USPS shipping to NZ. It sat in Chicago for ages with me going crazy. Eventually it was returned to 21stC and they refunded all my bucks including the shipping which surprised me.
Usps seems to be the problem in did .
