Stagstalker dont discount the prc its a pussy as far as recoil goes . its very pleasant .and i shoot mine without a can .Plus it will give a bit more performance wise over its smaller siblings in a shorter barrel. If i was doing it again id wait for a Tikka

Ive just created one, i had an early mod 7 260 rem with a slow twist barrel that wouldnt stabilise anything heavier than 123gr.

I picked up a Rem 700 take off 24" 6.5CM 8 twist barrel off the forum recently. Ive screwed that on in place of the 260 barrel. It headspaced perfectly too.

A year or so back i also picked up a 2nd hand Wildcat Composites stock which is really light and stiff. So thats gone on it.

Ive done initial load development with 143gr eldx and its looking pretty good with Re26.

Im looking forward to finishing it all off and doing some more shooting with it. Ive left the tube at 24" for now, on the shorter mod 7 action its still only the same OAL as a 700 or Tikka with a 22" barrel.

Is there much to be gained with a longer tube in the CM?

@outdoorlad that sounds like a mint setup! Don't think I could manage the spend on something like that at the moment unfortunately.

I'll post some pics once it's all back together again, the barreled action is currently away at my FIL's being threaded for brake/suppressor. Im in the process of shortening the LOP of the stock and swapping out the very heavy Limbsaver for a nice light Italian pad. The Wildcat stock will get a quick flick of paint too.

Ive only shot 143 eldx's and 140 eldm's thus far for initial testing. They go pretty well, but im keen to try 130gr Bergers as well, which in theory if i can push them as fast as QL tells me the ballistics should better the 143's.

6.5x47 Lapua is even shorter than Creedmoor, which often seems to be forgotten. It’s also a cartridge specifically produced for target and competition use. Slightly smaller capacity and velocity, but Lapua brass is a bonus. There isn’t anywhere near the factory support but for reloaders that’s not an issue.

Should sit in a Tikka short action mag easy enough (at a guess).
