Thread: Short barrel magnum calibres?

I have a 19” 300 wsm and love it, has dropped everything on its feet. Originally had it at 21 inches and was getting 178eldx at 2900 happily no problem but I hunt bush most of the time so cut to 19. Currently running 178 eldms at 2660 which is very soft for a 300 wsm, but shot same hole group and I hunt sika in bush 90% of the time now so don’t want the eldms exploding if I ran them to quick. Still getting 2800 ftlbs at muzzle with the eldms going 2660 and would still happily take an animal at 500 yds. The great thing with the 300 wsm is that I can do much hotter loads for long range if need be. Got a dpt over barrel magnum with SS baffle with the longer overbarrel chamber.
