I got 2660 out of an 18" bbl. 7mm08 tikka with 162eldx but need to single feed like I said above. Even if only 2650 doesn't matter as still gives you more oomph at range than almost any hunter would know what to do with. I sure as shit ain't shooting reds at 800+ but nice to know at 4-600m which is a long shot on an animal for most of us it should still smash it.

Really need a bit more than 1000 ft lbs for a Red Stag IMO, 1500 ft lbs is a better yard stick

I'm hoping for similar velocities with 175-180gn projectiles with the shorter barrel
my 300WSM Tikka 959 has a 20" barrel and am getting 2980 with 178 amax using win 780 powder

Well that sounds promising, I got my rifle back from being chopped day before "the great lockup" still waiting on powder and then permission from dear leader thugs to go further than the nearest supermarket. Mines a Kimber Montana shot great with the 24 inch barrel but was a bit of a handful recoil wise.

Always read an been told 1000lbs in the yardstick. Highest I have ever read was 1200lbs but that was only ever once. Buuuut even if we use 1500lbs at 2700fps a 162eldm will deliver that out to 550yds which again is more than most people can shoot.

I have a 19” 300 wsm and love it, has dropped everything on its feet. Originally had it at 21 inches and was getting 178eldx at 2900 happily no problem but I hunt bush most of the time so cut to 19. Currently running 178 eldms at 2660 which is very soft for a 300 wsm, but shot same hole group and I hunt sika in bush 90% of the time now so don’t want the eldms exploding if I ran them to quick. Still getting 2800 ftlbs at muzzle with the eldms going 2660 and would still happily take an animal at 500 yds. The great thing with the 300 wsm is that I can do much hotter loads for long range if need be. Got a dpt over barrel magnum with SS baffle with the longer overbarrel chamber. Did you cut into your fluting when chopping it back? Be keen to see what it looks like underneath the suppressor?

Yup cut into the fluting when I went to 19, some people said not too but majority said it’s fine and I’ve had no problems.

Interesting, how does that work as the breaks usually work by re-directing gas to offset the recoil but with a suppressor which works by trapping all the gas inside and slowing its escape??

The recoil is acceptable you just must pay attention to what you are doing, rather then just shoot with one hand tucked under the butt like many do

Here's an update of how things progressed.

I eventually cut the barrel to 21 inches and suppressed my rem mag with a dpt. Talked to a few people and got some reloader 23, 162eldx and loaded them to the same length as factory precision hunter ammo. Did a ladder test starting at 63.5grns and working upto 65.5 grns. All shot well but 65 grns shot exceptionally well. So loaded up another 15 of these and went to the range, zeroed at 100 then shot a group at 200. The 100yard group was 1 hole and 200yard group was. 393 of an inch and dropped about 2.6inches from my 100 yard zero which gives me a speed of approximately 2900fps (il verify this out further), but pretty stoked with the result.

Defintely don't regret chopping the barrel and suppressing as it's alot more pleasant to shoot now and accuracy improved.

Stagstalker, how do you find your cut down Rem mag on factory shelf ammo?
