My 270 is a short barrel, still kills fine out to around 400 yards but don't disagree that an 08 type would do the same.

Being over gunned is under rated.

Fyi, I can get about 2800 FPS out of a 140gr sst with an 18" barrel or 3000 FPS with a 110gr Barnes TTSX

And I don't have to tell anyone I own a 7mm08 even though the performance is probably better, but with a longer barrel I expect?

Depends how 'long range' your idea of long range is.

If you launch a .270 140 Accubond at 3050fps they're still doing around 2000fps at 600 yards with about 1250 ft-lbs of energy so should open up just fine.

I've got a 243, 20inch barrel, gunworks suppressor. I am confident I can hit kill zone out to 300m with it but I'm more concerned about putting something down in the size of a red @ 300-350m max if necessary on a slope other side of a valley. On a recent trip I was on, a spiker was at 360m odd - 30deg uphill on a face, so I swapped to my mates 270 and guessed the holdover uphill. It went over it's back. I wasn't confident on a rifle I hadn't used at that distance. I want to keep the 243 for smaller stuff, and have another caliber for the bigger animals.

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

That's why opinions are like arse holes.

700 rounds with those projectiles. Barrels as cheap really so what does it matter? Performance comes at a cost, and some people want more then a dribble out the end

If you have the .243 and you like it and your keeping it, then skip 270, as it has a lot of the antisocial characteristics but its not far enough ahead of the .243. Jump straight to 7mm and get a WSM or a SAUM or a 7mmRemMag. No worse to shoot than a .270 and a lot more potent.
Yep. Older one without TBR on it.
