For that price range i’d look at a good zoom camera rather then a lower quality spotter. SX60 work a treat.

Would have to agree if you're stuck in that price range a camera would be the go.... And lighter

Maybe also easier to make a case for it before the Accountant. Great for family and holiday photos.

Good stuff. When you work out how to take clear pics at distance with it let me know

An SX60 is on my wish list. I have a nikon ED50 spotter that I like. They rate pretty well for what they are https://www.targettamers.com/spottin...-30x50-review/ I got it cheap by buying the body 2nd hand as new and lens separate on Ebay. I managed to get the whole thing in under the customs limit. It is light and portable, I only use a spotter occasionally so I didn't want to throw big coin at one. There are several eyepiece options and you can get a digiscoping kit for it.

    Price range $400 ~ $800.

    Uses as below:
    40% target shooting at 100m.
    10% target shooting between 100 to 400m.
50% spotting deer in the Ruahine and Kaweka ranges.

Would I be better of with a 60mm or 80mm objective? And max 45x or 60x magnification?
Also is it better of to buy a tripod that comes with the scope? Or buy the scope only and get a tripod later.

What are your thoughts on the two scopes below:

Thank you in advance for any advice.
I have a Panasonic 570 video camera, that's pretty good. $500 and under from memory.
It sounds like you are just setting up, and are not talking about bush stalking... Most 6-24 rifle scopes will take care of the target shooting aspect you mention.
