    Spotting scope recommendations?

I’ve been good lately so Shirley said she would shout me a spotting scope. Yussss! I use 6.5x55 and .223 out to 300m on our local range and when experimenting with various pills/loads in my collection of 6.5’s, I get sick of walking out to the butts.

I’m contemplating Vortex as I use their scopes on my ‘best’ rifles. Guessing 20-60 x approx 80mm objective. I’d dearly love a Kowa but don’t have enough ‘credits’ at this stage.

Any recommendations from personal ownership/use please. Some of the club members have bought low end spotters and don’t enjoy using them. The spotter would be used primarily on the range. Estimating I’m allowed something up to $1500 max.

for your purpose - identifying hits on paper, I'd recommend a superzoom camera. Set it up next to you on tripod, zoom in & take a pic after each shot. Easy as & you have a record of shot sequence ---- real handy when you're running a load ladder. Also use mine for video recording on "long" range gongs (450 -650 yrds) to see POI especially if shot is going just off target - high/low/left/right. Saves a very long walk across a couple of gullies. Picked mine up 2nd hand for ~$450 a few years back. The newer model is SX70? (70x zoom) I think and the slightly older SX50 (50x zoom) would also be fine for 300 -400 yards.

Excellent thanks. Shirley is a camera guru so I’ll see if she misses one of her fancy ones.

Issue resolved. I just scored a ‘spare’ Canon SX60 from wife. Chur.

Does this mean you get extra points for making a new use for under utilized gear, or all points immediately expire and you are back to square one?
I'd like to verify your clam.

Yeah…I realised she short changed me. Probably knew her stuff more than me. I think I’ll direct the ‘credits’ elsewhere now.

Use the credits to buy a new rifle…a bigger calibre makes bigger holes that are easier to see

Hell yeah. I’ve always had a hankering for a 45/70 after shooting my sons Marlin.
