Our local shops got an 16" sr556e.I like it.Anyone got one?

Nope, i passed up my opportunity to buy one. Too heavy and piston driven. Other rifles will do the same thing for cheaper and are lighter to carry.

I have an NEA 18'' barrel they aren't as light as led to believe when you have been carrying them for a few hours hunting. I removed the brake to save weight and fitted a Samson evo free float tube. This thread will be an interesting one, haven't handled the ruger sr 556.

The sr556 has a narrow foreend and seems very pointable.Theres only $200 between them

The SR556 uses a propriety operating system, which has nowhere near the spare part support the NEA will be compatible with, should you ever have issues.

what have you got?

Mates Sr is heavy as put it against my rock river and nearly broke my arm with the weight. Piston driven should be a bit cleaner but have not shot it yet. Foregrip is quite small if you have smaller hands you may like it.

did he get it from craftys?

A few different direct impingement uppers. Oddly one of them uses propriety parts - wouldn't have got it if I'd known.

build 'em yourself?

One of them, the other two are factory, I have another build on the go.

how involved is it to get the parts?I might have a go at building one myself.

What are you going to use it for and will this be your first AR-15? As Gimp has said previously pistons solve a problem that doesn't exist. The biggest advantage to them is that they are easier to suppress. After that its personal preference.

3 gun,range use and hunting, in that order.The Sr556 is on the rack in my local gunshop,I'm not fussed about the piston.

The sr556 is bloody heavy, for 3 gun you would be better with a lightweight ar15
