What can ya do. I have known Dave for 40yrs. Went to school with his boys. Dave did my FA licence back in 83' when he was testing for the MSC.
Always wanted one of his stocks on a rifle I owned. Should have done it years ago.
I tried to buy a BSA mini action rifle off a client that had one of Dave's stocks on it. Such a beautiful rifle.
I pester him to sell it to me everytime I speak to him. He will never sell it.

I have tried to make a stock before. Let's just say it was functional but I was too embarrassed to be seen with it
I was ok at metal work but considered retarded when it came to woodwork.

Have built two for Ruger mk2. I found the inletting by hand a bit complicated (time consuming) but was pleased how they came out.
Getting the pillars right was also interesting because of the angled action screw.
Shaping and finishing was enjoyable but (time consuming)
Did one for my sons T3 which was much simpler .
There are some pics on my profile.
What rifle is this for? .

If you want "top shelf" its likely to take some time. Both Dave Ward (Dovedale) and Allan Carr (Paraparaumu) are masters of their craft, true custom gunsmiths who can do work that is on a par with the top overseas 'smiths - but as I mentioned there will probly be a wait and a hefty pricetag, however the result will be worth it if its a heirloom quality rifle.

Yep Tentman has nailed it. Allens work is fantastic some of the Mausers he has built are out of this world. Ive never heard a bad word about Dave either.

My prediction is Allen won’t take on a restocking job, takes him too long to make it viable - work of art.
