My take is that most subsonics give plenty of penitration on typical goat to red deer sized game side or quartering.
So a larger caliber will make a bigger hole. You are only getting a caliber sized hole so you need to hit something significant to stop game traveling a long way, Heart, CNS, leg bone, Spine. Same for bullet mass. I don't think a super heavy bullet gaines you much as you will proabbly get full penitration with a mid weight bullet.
My 220 gr HP in the 358 win went in front shoulder and exited just foward of the pelvis on a sika hind last year.
Personally I'm moving up a step to a jacketed pistol bullet at 16-1700 fps for side one chest shots on goats and small deer out to 100mtr.
Do carry serious loads for large deer or longer shots if needed.
