The sonic "crack" is directionless too so when you miss (when not if ) you get a follow up because the animal doesn't know where to run. at least that is my understanding

Maybe they meant 450mm, at which point it would all start making sense

Here are a few numbers that may be helpful. Using a BK 2209 meter and 4136 mic calibrated with a BK 4228 Piston phone located 1 meter left of the muzzle and 1.6 meters above the ground.

    20" PWS using R1M1 762x51 ammo no muzzle device - 165.68 dB(a) 2660 FPS
Same with can 137.15 2670 FPS

Tested at 50mm from shooters right ear (keep in mind this is a semi with adjustable piston gas)
    No muzzle device 156 DB
    Can 133.

    Full results. About halfway down.

A few other numbers from memory. Brakes add 3 to 5 db over bare muzzle in the direction of ports. If the brake is turned on its side with bottom facing mic, the number is about the same as a bare muzzle.

Its 58 dB at my desk, with everyone gone to lunch... and when I type it goes up to 74 dB... that's with my phone close to the key pad.

    I think your meter is faulty - 7 db's doesn't seem enough

The 48dB recorded will also include back ground level noise.

+3db is double the Sound Intensity (Acoustic Energy)

+10dB is double the Sound Volume (Perceived Loudness)

60dB is about the level of a normal conversation

I once cleaned up a mob of sika with my new suppressor as they milled around. Picked the lead hind then the next biggest etc etc.No way that would have happened with an unsuppressed gun. Many times that has been repeated.Just shows we all have different results.

Do you guys notice a difference between dry and wet surrounding bush / grass? It seems to get louder if it has just rained imo....

Iv seen that with reds and bare muzzel 303s on more than one occasion. Taking out the lead hind is the best way to make it happen. Having shot with both supressed and non suppressed over the years I cant say Iv seen a significant difference. Sometimes they run sometimes they dont. A while a go we shot 2 stags with a braked 280ai and a clean 7mm08, a third stag just stood looking at us while we discussed how much we already had to carry out.maybe a couple of minutes before it left the scene.
