    supressing 243

this has probably been asked a million times but cant find anything using the search I need a deer pig goat rifle for northdudess jnr was toying with the idea of buying her a new rifle but then I have a few already so why not build one for her I'm thinking the likely candidate would be the savage mod 111 243 its a tack driver but a little rough she needs a reblue and thinking a mae over barrel suppressor to quieten it down and cut the recoil for her so whos running a 243 like this and what length did you chop it to and how well does it work cheers nd

Dont own a "poo for free" but suggest getting a supressor in 30 cal, it'll work as well and can also be used on a "proper calibre" later.

yea that's what I was thinking 30cal to go on everything I'm likely to own I want her to enjoy hunting so I'm not going to put her behind the 308 or 3006 straight away so 243 seems the best bet the 222 might be ok once she gets a bit of experience under her belt

Got a Savage 243 for TR and got it suppressed. Kept the barrel factory length though.

Mossberg chopped to 20" with a DPT can
    2950 with Hornardy 87 gn.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Really....must be one hot load for the 243. A standard 24'' using 100gr ammo is only getting 2920-2940 fps and you getting 2945 with the heavier 105gr in 20 inch? Some reloading guides say it(105gr) maxs out at 2800(out of 24-26) and thats more the speed you might get from a 243 wssm . I would say thats too hot for most stamdard 243 in 20"", esp if its got a low twist rate

Depends on which one you use I guess. Quickload suggests the pressure is okay and I get no pressure signs when firing. I feel safe using it in my rifle.

Get a DPT and u can change the modules to suit the cal using the same overbarrel base unit.
I've got a set of brand new 243 modules kicking around somewhere if u r interested. In terms of thread the 14x1 is probably best for most sporting weight barrels, it is slightly bigger than 1/2x20 so leaves more of the barrel intact

I don't think that you reload, do you?

3k easy peasy. The high energy powders like N550, R17, V100 do it in a breeze. Good cases like Lapua or Norma assist.

My 20" 234 is 3,270 fps with 85 grn Interbond and V100, and 95 grn Targex 3,080 with N550. No pressure signs.

The Lapua reloading data has 100 grn at over 3k with N550.

I'm not aware of any correlation between twist and pressure, but might be wrong.

If the pissy little 6BR can routinely run at 2850 with 105s, a .243 should be good for a solid 200fps more than that. Don't believe everything you read in manuals, esp American ones. Equally, don't be too gung-ho by going it at max..

I find loads that are under the max are more accurate from what ive tried
