I've been looking at the Z8i, for my double rifle, I like to have a play with one, as its a grand more than the Z6i, I have two off, and like them.
My Z6i 2x12x50 is illimitation gen one, and I've not had any problems, in the ten plus years, I've had it, currently it sits on a Sako Av in 7x64, and gets regular use, Extra weight, of illumination is the only disadvantage I can see.

have had 3 z6i, only have two now(selling one was dumb) and have had no issues in well over 5 years- one scope in particular has had a lot of feild and range use and looks beat to hell and back but is still working like a new one(thanks lens caps.

I can see a z8i in my future to replace my trijicon 1-8

Hey Frodo, cant tell you how the Z8 compares to the Z6 but i have had a 1-8x24 as my main scope the past couple years.
Its been on a work rifle so would have around about 3000 hours of use so far in all conditions the NZ back country is known for.
Ive changed the battery once, the illumination system is simple and hasn't given me any trouble.
Its had a rough life, im not precious about my gear, i look after it but at the end of the day its going to get knocked and scratched and dinged at some stage, the Swaro has held up fine. Hope that helps answer some of your questions.
