In all honesty in factory chamberings it's a Tikka thing - they have a very long free bore / jump. My Tikka 270 WSM had very very underwhelming velocities when I first started handloading, until I started to (very slowly) exceed book max using 2209.

However if you've reamed it out to 280 that shouldn't still hold except for a new barrel that is still being run in?

that could be it, my mates howa with a 16 inch barrel in 7mm08 is just over 100fps of me with the same size projectile
    2600 to my 2700 in 150gr

it was a lot of fucking around to get it to 280 for 100fps haha

I don't think it's your barrel although from what I've found the .280 and the AI version do like a longer barrel 24" and above.
I've tried a number of cal of the years in the .280 length case and I've always gone back to the shorter .308 length case as the most efficient for vol vs barrel length and powder used.
As Kelton has said all my testing on the .260 and Creedmoor has been in either a Tikka or Sako and with the tikka i always have run a long mag and long bolt stop.
My loads i would say are above book max i just use a good Chrono when doing load development and do a ladder to watch for pressure and flat spots in speed.
Im picking RL26 would be a dam good powder in the .280.

yeah no doubt, sadly I gave the 3 containers to that same mate that has been setting up a 7RM

Its hardly fair comparing someone's handloads to Hornady factory but yeah I should claw back some speed with 2225

I've had a tikka that had the chamber done as you are thinking and i really struggled to get over 2800 from it's 20" barrel.
I now had several .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor and and still use a Sako Creedmoor, in both cal I've had no problem to get the 143eldx to shoot 1/2 MOA and over 2800fps from 18 and 20" barrel.
If you use Hodgdon superprofrmance or RL26 you can achieve this.
So i wouldn't waste your time with the .284 option.

Thanks alot for the advice. You just saved me alot of time and money. Always good to hear from someone who has actually done this. Not just handed on information. Will stick with the wee Creedmoor for now. I'll give that superformance a crack. RL26 is nearly as rare as hens teeth in my area as are eldx projectiles. Have you tried any of the lighter projectiles 130s or 120s? I can get my hands on 123gr sst and 143gr eldms. Just concerned that the harder match projectiles will just poke holes through deer leaving me with blood trails.
    Thanks again.

    Hi
I've only ever used 143 or Nosler LRAB 142 the ELDM are fine on game i would go with the 147 eldm i see reloaders has them at $110 per packet.
If you want any info on Hodgdon superprofrmance and the 143-142 flick me a pm.
