    A-Tec mini adaptor thread locker

I am a looking at a getting another A-Tec can and with the A-Lock Mini Adapter. On their webpage they recommend using Loctite 638 on the barrel to adapter threads - this seems like an odd choice as 638 isn't a thread locker it's a retaining compound for slip fit cylindrical parts.

Any engineers on the forum got any comments on this?

    Cheers, Shamus

Yup. An airline pays me to be one and I’ve used 638 for this very task.

    1) it’s hard to get
    2) it’s farken expensive
    3) there’s no going back.

It’s a gel with a very short working time. I tried to use it on a PRS A-Tec suppressor that had to be timed because of the integral directional brake. It locked up before I’d finished and I had to ask a local engineering workshop to apply ( lots of ) heat and torque to undo everything so I could start again.

I’ve gone back to normal 243 threadlock for A-Tec mini adapters.

I de-grease thoroughly, apply a good release agent in applicable areas and let everything set for 24 hrs.

I’ve also taken to loctiting the adapters into the suppressor’s, so I can shoot suppressed or braked loads out of the same barrel.

I used 263. They recommend 638 as it is high temp rated. I’m more worried about the quarter turn lock. I have heard about a can flying down range with the A-lock. I check it is thigh and locked every 5 rounds…
