I was always taught one simple rule with respect to public land

"no shooting in the dark under any circumstances" !!

To this day I still think its a vital rule !!

Im not too concerned if you want to run around chasing deer in the dark with a knife or for that matter use a handheld thermal in the day....

However I don't write the rules

There was some pulsar stuff due in November but I think that has been delayed.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

And after being through court over DOC and being charged I would totally not use Thermal on DOC land all it takes is an A hole from DOC and then it is you that will be paying to prove your innocence. And it's written on your permit so nobody's word will stand up.
