No, it uses some ar10 parts but it's a stretched out action. The same company also makes 338 lapua mag AR style rifles.
I think the owner half regrets the expense as he used to get two+ years out of 22-250 barrels on his bolt gun but with the slightly higher round count from the semi and the extra heat from faster follow up shots what is already a barrel burning caliber is just mental and he is getting under a year.
The fact he lives in wanaka so has an abundance of rabbits to play with is not helping him. He recently bought a .223 ar from digit as a special import to try and save some cash.

Considering the regular AK can cost as little as 50 dollars in some countries, I wouldn't pay that much for one... they are selling a 500-600 dollar gun with 200 worth of parts
but Norinco products are pretty good and have heard great things about the NHM/MAK
