Thread: Thoughts on Savage Weather warrior.

Gidday - I've got a Savage lightweight in 6.5 Creedmoor, its a very very accurate rifle, and my one is quite smooth for a Savage - the guys have given you a fair summary of their virtues and warts !!.

The last one I had was quite different, it had a fairly heavy bolt lift, it cycled fine but it was noticeable. If you can get into the shop and they have a few I'd try and see if you can cycle them then make a choice, from what I read they vary "that much" due to bolt timing issues.

I'm also in Invervegas and your're welcome to look at mine as well.

Love my lightweight .223 savage.

Savage are mostly accurate straight out of the box. Their locking lugs have a washer and wobbly locking lugs set up that aligns the lugs correctly without fancy trueing. It works.

I have got some real fancy stuff in my cabinet, but I'm never too proud to grab my Savage. Gives me a lot of pleasure. Now I want a lightweight in a heavier calibre like Tentman's. Actually, I want Tentman's A bush pig (I hate that expression) straight out of the box that weighs under 6lb, shoots like a demon and doesn't make gunsmiths rich. Only negative is that they are not stainless. But you could buy a 44 gallon drum of oil for the price difference when compared to the stainless flash Harry's that you still have to spend money on.

I have owned 6 savage rifles including a .300wm and a .243 weather warrior. The 300wm was amazingly accurate, the .243 was not. The 243 action was loose, the 300 tight as. They are ugly but very functional firearms IMHO but it seems you can get the occasional Friday 4:30pm one. If you can have a play first before purchasing all the better.

I use to have a pre accustock model 16....in 204. bloody accurate rifle and loved the tang mounted 3 position safety.......I upgraded the stock to a Boyds laminate stock.

Cool guys thanks for the feed back. Got a real sharp price on one coming from shooters supplies chch. Haven't been able to have a play with it unfortunately but no one seems to stock them in Invers. Now to pawn off some other items in the buy and sell haha..

How bad is it?

It shoots well, I just hate the fit and finish, and the feel. It balances like a 2X4. Rugged and reliable sure but there's more to life than this. Rings and bases included for 500

I know what you mean with regard to the fit and finish but that's a good set up for $500. Fuck I better go to sleep. I don't need another .308.

Round count? It's a 308! seriously id say no more than a couple of hundred. Bore looks pristine.

Just picked up my new lefty Weather warrior Accustock version for $795 plus rings and bases. pretty happy with that!

My new family member.. Hopefully get some blood on her this weekend..
