FYI Burris has a forever warranty, and backup is available in NZ. Generally a scope would just be replaced on the spot with a new one from stock as not to make the end user wait while the problem unit is sent it off overseas. (old out of production models are replaced with comparable new models)

Details from their website re warranty

"Every Burris optic is covered by the Burris Forever Warranty™. We will repair or replace your Burris optic if it is damaged or defective. The warranty is automatically transferred to future owners.

    No repair or replacement charge
    No warranty card needed
    No receipt needed
    No questions asked
The Burris Forever Warranty does not cover loss, theft, deliberate damage or cosmetic damage that does not hinder the performance of the product.".

In some ways it is a pity the grendel s not the bush gun as the calibre seems well suited for that sort of range.
The grendel will be a similar bush/toy gun. I havea 6.5prc for an all rounder, and a 300wm for a stretcher.

For me the VX1 would go on the bush gun. Additional considerations are that the model is exceptionally low weight, and that once aligned front/aft, the objective lens housing - being just an extension of the 1" tube - often ends up positioned flush and within the front mounting. This makes the front of the scope (depending on the robustness of the rings) almost immune to damage and with nothing exposed to hang up on vegetation. In addition to FOV, a full sight picture at 1x has greater latitude for eye relief - something that is more likely to come into play when there may be little time to set up for the shot or alter the shooting angle.
