UTAS 716 -anyone got one? Thoughts?

Not much info about these around. Anyone got or had one? What do you reckon... appraisal?

I have a 516 and the Troy SPR.

The 516 is as close as you can get to the real AR platform that you can shoot on a normal sporting license. Especially if you fit a normal charging handle.
Good factory trigger (one of the best I've found)
The left hand charging has no option to swap.
You will need to mount the scope further back, or lift your face off the butt stock to use the UTAS or normal charging handle.
Parts are well loctited and wrenched on. Hard to take off to fit after market parts.
I'd recommend taking out the extractor spring rubber O-ring, plunger to avoid issues with the bolt locking in properly and causing misfires.
Decent UTAS build quality, the 716 would be the same quality.

The Troy has easy to swap left or right handed charging. I prefer right side.
But has very few AR compatible parts you can swap out.
Terrible factory trigger that will need upgrading.
Need a special tool to take bolt and buffer spring out to take apart.
    But decent Troy built quality.

Pity you are down south, as you could have a had a go with my 516 and Troy to help decide.
    FRST and Sh00ter like this.

Do they run a standard ar15 Bolthead?

Both the Troy and 516 do.

The 716 will obviously run the 308 BCG, with a solid blocked gas key and no gaskets on the bolt.

Have they implemented any primary extraction? Probably unnecessary for the ar15 based action but the 308 id think might need it.

Removing the O ring from the extractor spring can stop the extractor from chewing into the brass. This is a good recommendation.

There is a chamfer around the firing pin hole, creating a false indication of the overpressure primer. See comparison between the UTAS516 bolt head versus the milspec bolt head.

@Beavis and I were discussing this very thing a while back. That was our question too.
Unless someone else posts the answer, I'd recommend messaging Delta Mike directly.

A fluted chamber would probably fix that

As Ant I have no hands on with the 308 but have a lot of rounds down a 556. I find extraction can be sticky with some really top end loads, backing off half a grain fixes this, and it feeds and extracts smoothly.

It's tempting to buy one just for their swap-for-a-semi wager.
