That’s weird as hell. Both the brand of rifle and the cartridge are inherently accurate, so you were bloody unlucky there!

I too bought a trio of Sako's some years back ( .22lr, 223 & 7-08) to replace 13 stolen rifles and the .223 was the most problematic of them all. The other two were tack-drivers and I struggled to get the 223 shooting as well as i had hoped it would. It was also the first of the three to be sold-on. I would have tried 3 or 4 powders and probably as many different projectiles. Just wasn't consistent enough to rely on day to day. Still love Sako's though.

Using the 270 as an example.

    85gn@ 3800FPS, 1Okt full wind factor. 100yd zero. Drop/drift at 300 is -5.5", 4.25 impact energy 1840 FPE
    130gn@ 3100 same same, -10", 5.75", 1833 FPE.

    Maths. get it in ya.

Your 130grn must suck based on the velocity retention. But let's run with it.

You developed a whole separate load with all that shagging round and you are giving your barrel a spectacular raping.

For 1" of windage and 5" of drop.

When you could just put a suppressor on and get really good with your 130grn load.

The 85gr lost 678fps and the 130gr lost only 580fps, so the 85gr is slowing down faster as Tussock predicted.
Im sure if you run the numbers from 300-800 or similar we will see what tussock was saying, in that the lighter faster projectile generally only has an advantage at short distances as it sheds its velocity quickly by comparison to a heavier, higher BC projectile.

Ya Chris. As it also shreds your rifling it is probably not worth it.
