    Visitor Firearm Storage

    Hi Guys,

I will be travelling to NZ from Australia in April/May next year for a family holiday and Sika hunt with Helisika. Going through the process of acquiring a visitors firearm permit but wondering what options there are for storage whilst i complete the other parts of the holiday. Reading on other forums some people have said that Gun City and Hunting and Fishing will store them for a daily fee. Is it going to be possible for me to move them between stores as we make our way around NZ ? And am i able to purchase ammunition rather than bringing it with me? Or are there any other options? We will be flying into Christchurch and doing the south for a week or so before heading north as my hunting trip is towards the end of the holiday. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

My suggestion would be hire a rifle here and save the aggro involved in storing said firearm as a tourist.

We can store guns at Gun City and send them to other branches pretty easily. It gets somewhat expensive pretty quickly though. Best bet would be to get in contact with the store you're going to see first and get pricing through them.

You can buy ammo with a visitors licence and I'm pretty sure you can hire firearms as well though I'm not 100% sure on that one. Gun City doesn't hire firearms out but I assume some other outfits do.

If your helisika hunt is guided you can ask to be supplied a rifle...end of any issues.

I don’t remember reading that you can hire a gun. Buying ammo for the one you brin, yes.

Do you know of anywhere that hires them?

Would it be possible to store your rifle in a similar way to what is shown in this FSA video? Depends where you're staying I suppose.
