A while ago I was offered the opportunity to buy a 4-16 x 42 Grand Slam with their multi stop turret on top at a pretty sharp price. I immediately set about trying to research the scopes, mainly to find some feedback from users, but there was virtually nothing out there besides weaver's own promotional material. In the end I decided to risk it as the guy I was buying it off was using one and swore it was great and the price was too good to go past.
Having now had it for 6 months I thought I would put my thoughts out there in case anyone else is looking one day!
Overall, I love it. The optics are great, nice and clear and gather light well. I like the rectical, which is pretty minimal, with a central dot and windage hold overs every Moa, labeled every 2. (accurate at 16 power). For a 4-16 it is also quite compact at only 290mm long. The rest of the Grand slam ranges quality's are also consistent here.
The main feature of interest on this model I guess is the "multi stop" turret. Basically, once you have your ballistics worked out, you can customize your turret using little coloured plastic clips for your preferred ranges. During my research there was alot of negativity about the system from people who didn't own the scope. It works fine for me so far and the advantage I can see over a custom dial is if I ever change ammo, it's a simple process to change the dial to match my new ballistics. The colored clips can however, only be set every 1/2 moa so if your ballistics fall in between you have to make a little "+1 click" note on your chart but that's all I can find wrong with the system.
The other thing that may put some people off is the Zero stop. This is done with a pin thought the turret which as well as stopping it at zero, also stops it from entering a second revolution. So for me I am limited to dailing to 700 yards. As I am currently running a 15 inch barrel, this isn't really an issue because I am running out of lethal energy at before that range anyway.
It won't be for everybody, and there is certainly increasing competition in this price bracket, but I am more than happy with it.
Photos to come.
