Through Trade Me, they have bank details etc. It sounds like he is either trying to get out of a genuine sale or is not legit...

6.5-284 Win? Saw it on TM. Looked like good buying too. Maybe he has cold feet not getting what he though he would.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Bill, surely your first obligation in this transaction is to pay for the goods, as in any other trademe transaction. The verification of your ability to legally possess a firearm is a part of the delivery detail, not financial, as you only commit an offence by taking possession if you are unlicensed, it not an offence to buy it, even if you are unlicensed. If you really want the rifle, pay for it. He has said he will provide you with his details then. He has plenty of trader history, for the most part good feedback.

If you can't bring yourself to honour the transaction, walk away, but expect him to nail you with bad feedback, and rightly so IMO. Sorry if this sounds shit, but I think you've forgotten the basics. Pay first.

I can respect your position mate, but this person will not provide me with even a name or phone number,
Iv got the money ready to pay but I'm not going to get screwed because he wants to play games

I'd rather have no gun than no gun and no money,

    Correct.

If he kicks up a stink with TM, repeat the story back to them. The obligation to pay for winning an auction doesn't mean blindly follow, and the refusal to give any name or phone number does contravene TM's own COde of Conduct and T&C.

I've been watching this thread closely.
I have bought and sold a number of rifles via trademe, as I imagine a fair few of the people of this forum do.
In fact I've just bought another a few days ago and it's on its way up to me now all in the timeframe of this thread .
I have never had an issue getting a seller or buyers details.
I'd let this buy slide if you haven't already, the seller isn't worth the hassle

He hasn't replayed at all today so I'd say he has bailed.

You have to report him dude. Suspicious behavior may suggest he is being both unlawful and that he is not playing by the rules set out by TM.
