Thanks for that carlhurley, it looks like a fairly simple thing to try out.

I would pick up the famas as I used it extensively during my military service in France.
But I would go with the more modern versions: G2 or Felin that can take ar mags and with picatinny rails.
It has a free floating barrel, it is the toughest for shooting grenades and it is truly ambidextrous .
As said further up, problems of the bull pups is reloading speed . Advantage is that it is one of the best tool for urban warfare due to shortness, good also for tank crews and crashed pilots

I just realised I never said what I would pick!
Purely based on Internet reviews and a play with a airsoft version I would pick a tavor-I hope to buy one one day

Tavors seem like such a gun for nerds + weird Israeliphiles

the AUG on the other hand is sexy as heck and realistically does everything the Tavor does, while being from the fucking 1970s

e: the Tavor is also unnecessarily chunky and space gun looking.

I just want to collect them all,I very much doubt any of them would replace a ar for normal shooting-parts are such a issue long term

I think I want to change my mind to the FN P90

Why ? Just scores higher in the shits and giggles dept and 50 round mag is a plus

Is it just me , the Tavor came out a while ago , and the Yanks hated it , they hate anything not made/designed in the USA .
Now because they can buy IT , its the best thing since sliced bread , what rubbish .

Give me a std Steyr AUG any day of the week , its been sorted since 1977 when adopted by Austria .
I used to strip the trigger mech , clean the mold lines up with a razor & swiss file , then lube with the graphite powder , and the trigger was MUCH better than any std AUG trigger .
Used them RH & LH , very egro , except LH cocking , very reliable when dry and lubed a little , drop of oil in the cam slot , and very accurate , the magazine is maybe the strongest plastic mag , both in design & material .
BUT thats not what you want to hear .

Hate all the NEW Israeli gear , LIKE the Galil & older series UZI , mini etc .

    Later Chris

Galil has been around for ages. I used one in the mid/late 80's, no complaints. The R6/LM6 version is fantastic.

The Styer is a reasonably accurate heap of shit imo.
Bull pup weapons are overrated in any form of action just because of length.
If I had a choice for soldiering in any type of op I would use an AR or similar platform.
FIBUA does not require an overly short weapon aside from breachers and specialists.
Turret Heads do not need anything larger than 9mm as they are generally supported by indirect or infantry.
2 things I really did like about the Styer is the LMG barrel (accurate) and the ease and comfort of jumping with them tucked inside your harness and not having to lower them on a HESPR wich increased the risk of it being destroyed when lowered at around 600ft if the rig failed. Happened heaps with heavy loads.

The AUG's fire selector is conveniently located, in the same way that the SA80's isn't.
