    Warwick wfa1 still spendy enough
Merkel Helix straight pull, not available in 223 though
Browning maral 308 can get 9 shot mags for them now

There was an ar type straight pull that was bought into Australia that the government then deemed after they were in customers hands that they were bad and the owners had to send back to the dealer. It was available in 300 bo and 223.

Well if alternatives are being sought, the Krieghoff Semprio would be on my list. Not a true pump action but works in the same way. The fore end goes forward to reload but under recoil it is more like the buttstock and bolt comes back to reload. Simple to use and nearly as quick to change calibres as it is to put it down and pick up another gun...Saw one go from 300 Win mag to 223 in what felt like moments....

Is the Verney-Carrey speedline allowed in New Zealand? Not even sure if they come in .223 though.

The Brits went through the hand in/confiscation wringer a few years back and have a head start on sourcing suitable replacements in guises such as straight pull.

Although prices are very rich the guntrader.co.uk website may give some a good idea of what is out there.

Winchester could re-do their 1895 able to take detachable 5- and 10-round STANAG box magazines.

That is a neat bit of engineering.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

@Rushy I first saw one in the flesh so to speak before I looked at them online. Everything was so slick and smooth, Everything fitted perfectly and simply. A "neat bit of engineering" as you say, but also very neatly engineered. Proper german precision. They aint cheap either.....

The bolt face seemed to be able to change in the same way the case holder changes on a press. And it is almost better described as a bolt action as the "bolt" itself is attached to the buttstock and everything works in a similar method. I really like that the magazine can never fall out while in use, and if you look closely, when closed there is no "holes" or gaps for stuff to get into- no ejection port, no mag well etc, so keeping nature out of the action is easier too.

Literally one of my dream rifles, it won't happen though. Winchester do limited runs and they are very purist to the originals.

To be fair that is what the BLR and Henry Long ranger are, modern interpretations of a box feed lever.

Maybe you got a dud? I have heard some good reports but they do have a thin barrel.

The straight pull would be nice on 6.5 G
