    What to do with my Winchester 70?

    So I have a Winchester 70, 7mm08, bluing a bit worn, CRF action, plastic stock. Not a looker but shoots well.

    No one wants it so now I have a potential project. It'll get a new stock, but maybe it needs a new barrel ...

    What caliber should it be?

    you could do a lot worse than leave it as a 7mm08 damn good caliber if it still shoots well more pennys for a top class scope

    Agree. If you bush stalk and haven't already got shorter n lighter suppressed rifle,convert this one. Keep good rifle for open country and use this as the hack/ spare / loaner/ wet day bush rifle.

    You lot are boring

    For context I already have another shorty suppressed 7mm08, and a 280AI ...

    I've had it for sale for $600 for a while now Longrun.

    @Micky Duck that's just the 7mm's ... .22 to 375H&H in various steps, then there's the .577 snider
    @Longrun - I know right!

    22-250 is a nice velocity increase over 223, but is it really that different? Same with 22CM

    Good to see 22 CM mentioned. I sorta came by one by accident, mine is a 1:9 Savage ex 223 barrel. It shoots 75gns at 3250 from 20". That is a big big step up from a 223 especially when shooting to 300M or so in the wind. My one is going to become a dedicated Day/night scoped platform as in that mode it'll be very hard to beat for night shooting.

    I had a lot of fun with a 6XC shooting 87 grain vmaxes - deer out to 460m, and a 40 foot container full of goats, magpies, hares, plovers.......

    6 Creed would be the current version I guess.

    Well you can give it to me. I'll have it.
    Be nicer if it was 7x57 or 284
