    Buy both.
Buy a second 308 the same as the one you already have.
    Mount both scopes identically.
Field test them side by side.
Sell me the the rifle with the Leica for 50% of what you paid for it.
Win win for both of us............

@Tentman. Drop tests for various scopes are not consistent. Yes, tests from standard heights but inconsistent with surface used to drop onto. This in itself skews results. A minor detail among others maybe but puts doubts in my mind.

I stumbled across the rokslide.com methods page:
You might need to search for “Scope Field Eval Explanation and Standards” as the address didnt copy from the address bar.
Its quite a large web site.

Apparently all tests are done using rifles with integral rails ( but still with mounting rings) and action permanently bedded to the stock (fairly unusual). The initial return to zero test is said to be done by winding back and forth “200 mils”. For comparison the VX5 3-15 has a total elevation range of 22 mRad. Tracking test is said to be done by alternate shots up and down 10 mils which is about a typical adjustment between 100m and 1000m for a lot of cartridges. They dismiss the possibility that shooter technique could affect zero. It could be just that they are better at doing technical stuff than explaining what they did .

Trujicon (sp) consistently come out well, shame they are so expensive here.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

Where's Andy saying "buy once cry once" with an NX8.

It's about the only this missing from this thread now.

Thread has gone a bit sideways as they tend to so may as well throw this up out of pure interest, PRS based. Scopes have to handle some rough and tumble in this game.

If you are weight-conscious the VX-3 range is a good option. Quite a lot lighter than the VX-5. I have recently dropped down zoom and diameter and gone without parallax as I realistically wasn't using any of the above and I saved about 200 grams or so on the scope. VX-3 has a excellent quality/weight/price ratio in my opinion. The 3.5-10 x 40 one gets good recommendations and is well-usable for sensible hunting ranges for a 308.

I’m in the same situation at the moment, I’ve just bought a .270 Tikka and can’t decide what glass it’s getting. Vx5hd or z5!

Z5 is lighter and less bulky and more zoom but eye relief is more critical so try both then decide.
If you do any range shooting go for the 4w reticle on the z5 it's finer and much better at distance.

Well this post just cost me a bit of dough. It got me looking at the Leica Amplus 2.5-15x50. I have never really considered Leica scopes before but they look pretty impressive so one is now speeding its way to my place. Can't wait to give it try.

    Great !
Let us know how you find it.
Dont drop the thing onto soft padded ground just for our benefit but it would be interesting to hear:
Resolution on a test chart compared to another scope.
Adjustment across say 20” at 100m.
    Zero holding at different magnifications.
Eyebox quick useability at low power.
    Reticle visibility in low light.
Stability of zero over two or three hunts ( no need to do the 3000 round test for us).

It will be going on a Tikka 6.5CM which is currently wearing a V4 Zeiss 4-16, I love that scope and swore it would never come off that rifle so I reckon the Leica has some big shoes to fill. Anyway tinkering with gear is part of the fun for me. I have never owned a Leica scope but I do have a Leica range finder which has brilliant optics and have had the pleasure of trying out a pair of leica range finding binoculars which were also fantastic.
So not sure what my abilities and available gear will allow in the testing department but stay tuned, I will certainly give some feedback here.

I have that same scope on my T3x 243. On low power at dawn/dusk it has better visibility than any of my Leupolds and Zeiss scopes. So mch so that I am saving up for another one for my T3 Super Varmint in 22-250.
