Given a choice and also what is available in NZ what would be a good bush basher.
257 Roberts, 257 Weatherby, 260 Rem, or a 264?
I want a 6.5x55 but if one was to get a rifle from the states where the 6.5 never really took off what would you do?

A big fast bullet beats a little fast bullet every time
I smell a rat ... Don't you have a mate bringing a rifle over in a month or so? Is he not going to be taking it back with him?
Ray.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.
I quite like the idea of the 260, seems a nice all-rounder. Pretty much mirrors the 6.5x55 for ballistics etc but is a short action.
6.5 Creedmore looks cool too (pretty similar but longer neck for high-BC projectiles to fit better), but ammo/brass could be hard to find here.

If you're happy with a long action you could consider a 6.5-284 as well.
