In all reality 129/130 gr is enough for 260...... the 100gr Nosler does very well but because of the speed it waists a bit of meat and 130gr doesn't kick much more.... but if recoil is an issue 100gr loaded slower is a sweet kids load, I have seen goats taken beyond 400 yards with a 18-20" barrel (I think its 18") with ease and seen gongs hit at 780 yards with 260 and 130 gr pills with a great hit rate (3 from 3 with a new shooter once dialed in)

The .260 could be the go, i can tell you the .243 and .270 and not on the list for consideration, recoil is a big factor here as i want this rifle to be usable for my boy in a few years time.
My 10 year old brother shoots my other brothers Steyr mannlicher 243 no worries and they have a bit of kick for a 243 so I don't think you'd have to worry about that. Similarly 7mm08 has next to no recoil, actually read a story in a NZ hunting mag last year about a 7 year old shooting his first sika with a 7mm08. As has been said your 260 will kick noticeably more than a 243 and it'll kill the same animals

piece of string Toby depends on the rifle weight, stock fit, projectile, load, etc, etc.

So here is an update, after some time trawling around on Tardme i come across a Remington 770 in 7-08 with a buy now of $400 it was passed it twice at that so i asked if he would accept $350 and he said yes so i went and inspected it today and brought it home, less than 50 rounds through it and minimal surface rust so an easy clean up a bed and float and a scope, bingo bango new bush gun.
Spend today in the man cave working on it.
