My T3 22-250 has shot several thousand rabbits now. It's so well trained that it just about shoots them all by its self. It's worth at least twice as much as a new one. I think it's a bit like buying a good gun dog - you will pay more for a fully trained two year old than a 12 week old pup. Anyone interested in a bare T3 for $3k? I'll cover the postage

All good. Fortunately it shoots my AR-15 load at just under 1" so my boys have been using that stock of ammo without me having to do any load development yet. They spent a couple of hours on one shooting stand down Napier in Jan and there was a rather large pile of empty cases laying on the ground. Me spotting with the bino's and them exploding them. Big smiles all round.

They are investment rifles, No ones making any more of them. In 200 years time they will be very rare lol

If either of my boys ever come home with a T3 I'll disown them... I know it isn't the done thing these days and we need to accept alternate lifestyles, but I guess I'm just old fashioned...

I have saved them the trouble of choosing another dud brand of rifle and bought my 3 boys a tikka each.

Hope the indoctrination extended to calibre.

You need a good 308 for those Taihape deer.

Have you managed to convince the rest of Taihape yet ?

lol I have a 308 590 that I have just put a 308 trg barrel on that I'm keen to use on steel and I have my trusty 6.5x55 that's on its 3rd barrel with its gay camo stock that I actually like now.
my middle boy has a t3 6.5x55 lh with fluted bolt and barrel. my oldest has a shortened t3 in 7/08 that I got an exceptional deal on and my trusty t3 varmint 22-250.
    oh and all suppressed!
I am a berreta slut as also have my trg and 85 in 3006 as well.
my 6.5 would have been one of the first in the area and now has quite a following as they keep doing very well in our comps over here.
the 6.5s seem to punch above their weight using the 140 amax and now I'm using the eldx which work well on game and targets.
a good combination when suppressed with high bc projectiles for the recoil shy for longer range shooting.
the figures do the talking as far as that goes.
if the 6.5 can stabilise the new 147g hornady it will up the anti again.
these are out of the box shooters that work well.
I talked to 2 blokes yesterday that are of to giles to get their own 6.5s so the legend is growing!

My theory is perhaps what you are seeing is a lot of first rifle buyers who have bought Tikkas trying to on-sell them after giving hunting a go and deciding it's not for them. If you've been around the hunting rifle market long enough you know that as soon as you've walked out the shop door with that new rifle, the value just dropped by at least a third, sometimes more depending on breed/calibre. I get the feeling that most of those 2nd hand Tikka owners trying to sell them for ridiculous money don't know that.

Nothing wrong with tikkas, I'm just bemused that a rifle worth $1250 brand new seams to demand $1400-$1700 secondhand?

I like the theory that was proposed earlier about new hunters exiting the sport and not realising their rifle is only worth $500

The thing that gets me is a lot of Tikka owners have a perception that the Tikka t3 is the be all rifle....... when for $1500 you can pick up a Sako 75 which Is worth that few hundred extra.

The other rifle that I see time and again at cheap prices are Weatherbys in general and they shoot equally well ok yes they weigh a touch more but are fantastic and yes I may be biased( I own 2, or not enough to the wife).

The other thing I notice is that Tikkas coming up in magnum or larger calibres as I believe more than a few have gone for too big a calibre and it's booted them too hard so they try gain their $ back and buy something a touch smaller.
