The market decides the price, if people are willing to pay X amount then that's fine.

That's how Gun City justify their prices, doesn't mean the rest of us won't laugh at the people who do pay it
But seriously, who cares whether your deer rifle shoots 2 MOA or 0.2 MOA, either way that's good enough for deer. My gripes with Tikka's are mainly arbitrary, but god help you if you have to fork out for a spare mag, or need a replacement stock

Hunting dogs SHOULD improve with age, Tikka's just go down hill.

Mags are about $100 second hand or $150 new, stocks can be bought in as new condition for $80. Hardly seems expensive

Second hand, fair enough, but the price of a new stock from the importer is so high you'd be tempted to buy another whole rifle. Which adds to the feeling that Tikka minimise production costs wherever possible, and manufacturing extra stocks is a big hassle for them. At least with Remington/Savage you have aftermarket triggers and stocks everywhere

Not really a valid point
Tikka triggers don't need replacing and stocks are readily available in nz

I own Remington and tikka, both are the same, Remington has a replacement trigger, tikka didn't need it

Tikkas are well hyped by NZ magazine writers for their suitability as an all round hunting rifle with great out of the box features, like one of the best factory plastic stocks, a really good trigger & they shoot very well with the right ammo. So the second hand market is riding on this hype as well I reckon. They can ask what they for their Tikka but most of us can do our own sums and come to the right conclusion.

On another avenue, the same gun writers are using these base Tikka's for projects more than any other brand out there. I would suggest that proves they are reasonable economically priced for these projects with a few goodies available to pimp them out as well. Whatever way you look at it, Sako has produced a real winner with the T3 and there are a lot of happy owners out there.

I'm not a Tikka hater, but I like to point out that there are plenty of other options that will match it for price/performance. People should generally buy whatever they really like. I was set on buying a Tikka but after fondling a few different rifles in the shop I settled on something different that I liked and I've had no regrets.

The ar guys seem a bit the same all of a sudden a second hand upper is worth just as much as a complete gun

That's because they all they shoot less than one MOA. Even ones put together from random parts.

Oh my tikka shoots less than moa so it's worth more than a new one

One of mine often shoots .25 moa, so mine must be worth 4 x a new one ;-)

It might shoot MOA but most of the owners might be hard pressed to prove it if put on the spot at the range......................at least in my experience.
