I have a thing now for using open sights but haven't used them in proper anger in years, not even sighting in. That is about to change with the 303 enfield soon (thanks to @Micky Duck). The rossi always shot well and to point of aim with the factory sights once the ramp was removed (and lost)
I have a suspicion as much as I like the thought, that my eyesight may not cut it in the jungle for hunting. They aint what they used to be.
On a different not a friend of mine has a just got one of the new Marlin Laminate SS 44 magnum lever actions.
Nice bit of kit, but the aperture at the back just seems way too big. Is there a more classic open sight that could go on there?
It would be better a little closer to the front but that isn't really doable.

I've got QR rings on one of my rifles, often remove the scope to use the iron sights.

@mawzer308 was discussing the other mates 44mag with one of my other good friends Sunday night. He has a Blaser 300 wsm that he has had for yonks, so one of the older models. R93?
Rated the open sights very highly when he took the scope off. Comes up very well.

I got a nice aperture sight from New England Custom guns. It fits onto a weaver type mount but you need to put a taller front sight as well. Only use it for nzda interclub iron sight shoot. Scope has QD rings, just detach and attach the aperture sight. Got the sight in no problems but that was 18 months ago. Might be problem now.

Yip mines a maral but the sights line up perfectly when the rifles brought to the shoulder. Also have a marlin guide gun with the same sights as the 44mag. Great up close but lack any sort of precision past 50yds or so

An aspect of older rifles and many new ones is that the stock shape and configuration is often designed around iron sights and when you mount a scope , well ....... it ends up being a shit show .

I got a neat little 22LR JW25A to teach my boy how to shoot. He enjoys shooting iron sights way more than using a scope.

Plus Dad also likes shooting it as well.

Peep sights on my lever. Unscrew the aperture
And you have a ghost ring. Keen to follow bombs idea and
Run some hiviz front sights. Worked well on the compound. I find them fast and accurate at close range.
Looking for a skinner rimfire 9422 if anyone has one to sell. I think we need a permit for any firearm part?

It's that shit...the .357 mag Rossi I bought new in 1980 shot low so a file on the front post sorted that out. They both shoot great vertically though.

From what I've seen back when Brazillian ESOL students were the illegal workers of choice, Brazilian enthusiasm exceeds ability by quite a few orders of magnitude. No way would I buy a firearm made there.
I need a cowboy gun to get rid of 140 rounds of 3030 I ended up with but wont touch Rossi.
Brazilians are great people but they've made not giving a fuck into an artform.

I highly rate the Williams peep sights. They're the ducks nuts.
