I would suggest put it on TM, along with one of those 3 shot clover leaf groups ......
Or else flick me a PM cos I know a guy in your parts who can sort it 4 u, if it's not totally rooted.

@LRP has a point. My long love affair with Savages ended because while they are miraculous new, they fall apart in 5 minutes.
I would say a Savage can't take a stronger spring it's not strong enough and will just wear out faster. Seems what is happening to you.
Putting a stronger spring in was a Muppet fix. Something must have been off as there is no reason a factory spring would not work.
I hate fixes like that with passion. It's just wrong.
On a general note though, a light strike like that can be grit or hard grease in your bolt.
For hunting rifles your pin should be fresh and everything immaculately clean and lubricated with a LIGHT oil.
A sticky/slow pin will increase the lock time. It might shoot great at the range but it might also shoot like a bag of arse in the field.
If you grease your firing pin @Ryan_Songhurst when the rifle gets to low temperatures that will increase your lock time as the grease stiffens up.
Like a broken record I will point out nothing sticks to Eezox.

@gundoc what do you think about using silicon lubricant or dry Graphite powder on the bolt springs?
So that 1 it won’t freeze and 2 it won’t attract grit.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.
I see on trademe last night TWO savage 7mm/08s and a single bolt for sale at a reasonable price.......Ive handled two savages and just couldnt get my head around the bolt design....it was just different.
measure the case and the primer depth. also try stripping the unfired case; installing a new primer and then load and fire. Savage makes great guns. there are lots of variables so don't automatically blame the gun.
The firing pin is striking dead center.....so it's not the bolt. maybe the length of the pin or the chambering.....could also be excess oiling of the chamber. for some reason everybody wants to slather oil on parts.
150bucks later and the bolt is all fixed with no play but the trigger guard is split and causing it to fire when safety is pushed off. Any idea where i can get a metal trigger guard with a bottom bolt release or something to replace it? Cheers
Yes its a savage but a bit of steel bar? Come on id atleast use aliminium
