    Wilkie talkie recommendations

    Hey fellas

Looking at getting a couple wallkie talkies for the bush and have read good things about the GME 5 watt and the baofeng uv5-r. I see you need a ham licence for the UV-5R so they are out of the question.

I was wondering if anyone has used the Baofeng UV-81C 5 Watt Power UHF CB Walkie Talkie Radios? Or can recommend some

    Cheers

    I have Baofeng UV-81C,
I don't know if it's good or bad since I have nothing to compare it with.

Had a little issue with the earpiece but the seller (techoman) kind of fobbed me off.
Baofeng WT is pretty tough, easy to use, and clear but they are not waterproof,
I have 2 units dead so far due to liquid (rain) and only 3 units still going.

They r ok and they get the job done,
Would I buy Baofeng or from techoman again, that's a tough one.

Since you are in AKL, more than welcome to borrow or try it on a not rainy day.

Some extra info in a previous post:

I followed Ryan's advice and went with the 2W GME TX611's. Been great so far, good to be able to switch between 0.5W and 2W, but get good distance on 0.5W in most terrain. Take note the clips are bloody worthless (ask my mate who found that out on their very first outing), so whipped out the sewing machine and made a holder that velcroes onto my bino harness... my Form 1 Manual teacher would have been so proud.

Couldn't justify the price of the waterproof ones, so will just need to work out a little rain cover.

They were on sale recently at Repco ($230ish?), or Newlands Electrical in Ashvegas usually have them at a good price.

My hunting mate brought ABBREE AR-63 UHF Walkie Talkie Wireless Copy Frequency Powerful Receiver Scanner Frequency Long Range Two Way Radio off AliExpress. About $80 including postage for two 5W rechargeable units.
We have used them over the past year with no problems at all, good range, compact and dead simple to use.

    GME for the win.

I lost one in a pile of slash, so came back that afternoon with the other one and just walked around breaking squelch. It was in a puddle, and worked perfectly.

    The clips are rubbish.
