So he's asked for more eye relief but he actually needs less - that was why I asked just to make sure. So the possible solutions to this issue - if wanting to keep the bases and rings, need a longer tubed scope not a compact. If wanting to keep the scope, new base(s) and rings are needed - and the options there are a one-piece weaver or pic base or split weaver bases with weaver or pic rings, or increasing in price a propriety design that allows the scope to be positioned further back. The issue is the front base and ring are basically in that position, and unless you want to get funky with a mill/drill that setup is doing as much as it will.

They're not std leupold/redfield bases, they're std front and reversable rear. To move scope back as he wants? ( theres plenty of room to move scope foreward to get more eye relief ) he needs to aquire a reversable front base. Asia Imports used to carry the various bases.

@MCCPRO. dunno about your wenis's but i've got a set of Leupold's on my .308 M70 that have been on there for 35 years along with a Leupold M8 4x scope and have never had a problem with them. And I use my gear hard, not like the majority of safe queens that seem to be prevalent these days.

@woods223 Yeah I get ya. Have to admit I do have a couple (Cough cough) safe queens.

But with the rear of a scope cantilevered out like that a tiny knock can make a good day into a shocker.

Ive had to set up some weird mounts before just to get it on a gun. But have also dropped and fallen on mounts
more than I would like to admit.

Hey GSP. Your original question upon second reading seems a little ambiguous. If you want to slide the scope forward away from your eye? If so what is to stop you from loosening the ring screws and sliding the scope forward? If further back, buy the set with a front base that looks like your current rear base and face it rearwards, and use the rear base that looks like your front base now. This will give you the clearance needed to move back. These rings and bases are known as Leupold STD rings. Whether they have an extended front or rear - RVR or RVF - can be seen on the leupold website under 2 piece scope bases.you will find them as STD rings and bases. In any event, there is a solution, further forward or further back. Cheers

Correct. Probably easnt entirely clear. Need to move the scope back. Cheers

    Options look to be
    1. Flip the back rings around and use the longer scope. Bushy elite
    2. Weaver bases and clips
    3. Talleys ( anyone got a low set lying around?)
    4. Leupy std rings bases.
Appreciate all your input. Thank you.

@GSP HUNTER. Here's a couple of pictures that might help. M70 with reversable front and rear bases, back from when I had a Burris 2-7 mini scope on rifle for a trial.Alternatively you could use an extended front ring of the same height as original.

I have the same issue on my 223, I haven't done anything about it yet, I was thinking a picatinny rail and rings might work

Picatinny rail and rings work but makes reloading slower in a situation like culling a mob of goats, like if you tried to top load through a tikka type ejection port. Not that high volume shots are required all the time. Rail and scope can end up with higher line of sight if you can’t use/get low rings.
