Question Winchester Model 490. Extra magazines

Hi all. Recently purchased a Winchester model 490 22lr and gun only came with 1x 10rd mag. Was able to get a single old 5rd mag from gun city but was really hoping to buy some more 10 rounders. Would be highly appreciated if someone had some old ones lying around not being used anymore.

The 490 was made in Canada as a companion to the Win Model 88 and 100 - similar size and weight so you could practice with cheaper ammo.

They are relatively rare in NZ , and I would say you will struggle to find a spare mag here . But the internet is full of spare mags , if you can be bothered with the import process.

Having a 5 and a ten is probably good enough anyway - most .22 owners only have one mag so you have an advantage already.

The 490 does dirty-up fairly quickly so needs a good clean. Be cautious around the action as the pivot pins are floaters and can become displaced if you get too vigorous

    Good shooting .

I'm still relatively new to shooting so might consider selling the 490 and maybe get something stainless and easier to open up/clean. You wouldn't happen to know resell pricing, tried looking around but only one other available on trade-me and its pretty average condition. The one I've got looks brand new still with no rust marks or scratches/dents on the wood and I just don't know enough about them to judge a price.

Does your rifle have an asterisk ( * ) after the serial number? Initial production models had a factory recall to fix a problem with them going full auto.

As to value - they are worth what someone will willingly pay. They dont have any sort of cult following or collector following , they are a full-sized , 6lb rifle in a world of smaller , plastic and stainless rifles with better accuracy and better parts availability.

I have one that I enjoy shooting from a bench , but it isnt a carry rifle.

Guncity has two rifles on offer - I suggest this is the upper end of the market ( because they always are ) but heres a link to those TM auctions.
