Wind meters - what and where to buy

I guess I just need one that gives current wind speed and is waterproof, looks like the Kestrel 1000 might do, I see Workshop Innovations has a better price than Deadeye Dicks, but Deadeye Dicks have a better price on the Caldwell Wind Wizard II. Any feedback on either? I see the Caldwell is only 'water resistant'.
    Cheers, Tom

I just throw a bit of grass in the air & count "one thousand in one, for every meter it travels equals 4kph ( I round it up to account for drag ) works quite well

If only they made one with a thousand metre handle. Then I would know what the wind was doing down range.

I have one of those cheap ones and it works well, shot out to 800 in 18mph wind and it was spot on.

I don't bother with finding true wind speed and then stuffing around with the direction it's coming from etc I just hold it pointing straight along the line of my shot (if that makes sense?) and then I know what my true crosswind value is, for example I could have a 20mph wind coming directly from 2 o'clock but it only equates to say 4mph right to left crosswind. Seems to work pretty well.

JDC instruments do an ultra tiny set of weather machines

Wind speed, air temp, air pressure in qnh etc

    Fantastic bit of kit

    $120 on ebay

Batteries last forever and all measurements have multiple settings, the ones that are important are in relative.

Deadeye Dicks have their remaining stock of Kestrels on sale. About $500 IIRC
