    XCR vs SPSS

Does anyone have a Rem 700 XCR? Is it worth the extra $$ over an SPSS?

It depends if you plan on keeping it as the standard rifle, as the coating on them is only thing that makes them any different, iv had a xcr an the xcr2 both shot well.

I'd only plan to shorten a little and thread it. I have a blue SPS and if it wasn't for EESOX she'd rust badly on trips. As it is, I find it starts to spot rust on a trip at this time of year real easy.

Haha tikkas are awsome for spotting up. Ive had 2 sps's and neither of them were awful for rusting. The best in the price range for toughness though would be the ruger. My mate had one for like 6-7yrs before he cleaned it hahaha . He thaught stainless ment you didnt have to clean them. Still knocked the deer over though.

side by side my rem is spotty and my tikka is better

either still beats blued by a mile

my stailess 1022 is nice and spotty too, but that m77 smooth shiny stainless seems much better

Ruger stainless doesn't seem to rust At All

Remington does slightly but with that rough surface finish holds oil well so if you rub it down with eezox frequently you're solid

Browning is terrible. I think the rifles take the name literally, because at the sight of water they start browning (with rust)

Sako spots a very little bit

Trueflite barrels don't appear to rust at all

in order of worst to best out of my stainless guns

    Ruger 10-22
    rem 700 sps
    tikka t3
    trueflight barrel

all have marks if you look close enough, all are working hunting rifles that get all that northland coastal weather has to throw at them
what I think is the grittyer the stainless the worse it rusts as water sticks there and rusts it

worse comes to worse I could buff the brown off If I wanted to, Its not a layer like blueing

some people still drive round in old shit box cars too Toby.....

I have one of each. 270WSM in XCR and 223 for the SPSS.

I prefer the XCR finish and texture.
