Hi Tahr, Just been looking at your spiker again. He looks very mature and has been seriously rutting this autumn going by the pissed stained belly and knackers. Another thing I am pondering is the curved spikes.
Could this animal be a spiker for the second year running....Possibly 30 months old instead of 18 months.
Just curious about him. I would guess him to be around the 70/75 kilo mark though its hard to judge from a photo, our good spikers are around 55/60 kilo at that age.
Did you weigh him
No, didn't weigh him. Boned him out on the spot.
But you are dead right, and have made an excellent point. That is exactly what he was, but I didn't want to to complicate matters in the report.
As soon as I saw him I thought the same as you, so looked in his gob. He had four teeth up. So he would have been coming up 3 years old.
Thanks Tahr...I just couldn't leave it alone. Getting a bit pedantic I suppose, 'damn its going to be a long old age'. Like to know every detail about deer. I have had a lot of looks at your 'spiker'
The piss stains and the curved antler were a giveaway.
I say again though a damned nice animal.
Some growth out there now for the buggers.
