What happened to its antlers? Stags after the roar can be a bit average. I personally wouldn’t eat one from late march till it’s cleaned up in November. Maybe he’s done a lot of fu$king and fighting so is still as tough as old boots.

From 330 meters away I thought it could be a hind as that is what I was after however once I got over to it I thought bugger its a spiker.
I guess on close inspection it could be a buck that lost its antlers which would account for it being as tuff as a bit of rubber.

It certainly had a big set of nuts, I guess thats the down side of long range shooting.

Update on the tough fallow I shot, I put a chunk in the slow cooker for around 12 hours with coconut milk and a curry mixture and it came out tender and taste great so happy days

I will chuck the back steak in with the next chunk I do in the slow cooker

I do a lot of that during winter. A quick sauté with onions and curry paste, a can of tomatoes and one of coconut milk then in with the veges, set the timer to 8 hours and off to work. Come home to a lovely smell, heat it up while the rice is cooking and all done.
