Took Bo my labrador down river with my rod and shot gun.

I hooked a trout with a 7gm toby lure and as it was fighting and doing areobatics a parry drake flew down river towards us.

I dropped my rod and grabbed my shotty from off my back and held my foot on the rod to stop the trout from pulling into the river.
Fired a few rounds and dropped the drake. The dog didn't know whether to retreive trout splashing around in river or go search for the gamebird.
By this time my shotgun was on the rod to stop the trout pulling it into river while I commanded Bo "Go Fetch!"

He found it and brought it back.

Now it was time to leave the gun on the gravel and get back to the fish.

Ha! Brilliant. Really think you should’ve been able to use the other hand to film it in selfie mode so we could see the action, tho ;P

I reckon you get bragging rights on that one Dundee. I don’t know anyone else that has pulled that little trick off.

now if he only could've done a 300m shot with the stirling 22 that would be the trifecta.

I've done this many times before. Normally I wait till the duck crosses over the trout, then let fly with my .410 single 2 1/2" # 6. Sometimes pepper the lure but always miss the nylon, depends on the wind...

Ive done it with worm rod out while shooting parries during the feburary season....not half as classy as using a spinner though.
