Wonderful!
Wonderful!
At the amount of damage. Large areas of bruising, big holes, etc, from such little pills. It makes me wonder if there would be any meat left using the 308!
A few weeks ago I did a finishing shot on a doe my nephew had shot. I shot through the bottom of the head from 10m or so. The whole top of the head and all its contents departed to foreign lands. I was with one of the mods from the other pub and I jokingly suggested posting a terminal performance photo (he was against the suggestion!). Thankfully we found a suitable pose so my nephew could get a photo with his first deer.
almost makes a fella homesick...thanks for the writeup.
Good write up mate looks like an awesome trip!
I have EBRG leaning....... some bloke gave me a box of 85 SP's to feed that habit, cheaper than a cheap shot that one is, the wallabies will chortle at that joke as they tumble down the hill.
@Micky Duck they be going 3250fps @3/4" with a healthy dose of H4895, aint nothin safe out to 400yds
Nice one, sounds like you'll be making a few trips back to clean them up
Oo that long back strap looks good , nice work all the deer look like they have wintered well too , I haven’t shot a fallow in over a year need to make more of an effort they are about as good as it gets eating wise .

Cracker of a yarn mate, loved it! That country reminded me a bit of a block I used to hunt near the Wanganui river; very remote and slowly losing the battle with the regenerating scrub, but a fantastic place to tip over some fallow.
I think you took the right caliber i.e. 6mm instead of the 223. Beyond 200yd I always felt a bit under-gunned with the 223 (even with fallow!). Past 200 I tended to get a few runners, although they don’t tend to go too far when a 55 has punched through both lungs. I vividly remember squeezing off at a fallow spiker at about 220yd, aiming for the crease behind the shoulder with a 55 barnes. He reacted to the shot but began cantering towards the bush line so I emptied the Tikka’s mag thinking he had been gut shot, but despite my efforts he disappeared over the brow of a hill. “Total Clusterfuck” was my initial thought, but sure enough I found him as dead as a doorknob just over the brow of the hill with a neat hole in the crease, and another one below the hock on a back leg, which reinforced how shit I am at running shots! Eventually switched to a 243, perfect fallow caliber although I do like the look of the 6mmCM
Good write up mate! Those fallow tend to fall well to the 6mm. I love my 6 creed, so versatile. I dropped a nice fallow buck a month ago with my creedmoor using the 103eldx. No damage on entry, minor damage on exit shoulder with great terminal performance between the shoulders. Buck dropped on the spot and never had a chance once i locked eyes on it. Great little gun
Gidday all - great write-up, just what the forum needs.
Question to @Flyblown and all shooting larger animals with the 6mm's - what do you think is the minimum projectile speed (generally across a range of the higher BC projectiles) needed for reliable expansion?? Or to ask the question in a slightly different way, do you think the 1000 fpe at the quarry is still a realistic measure of the minimum required energy for reliable kills with a 6mm??
Thanks
Looks like photo uploads might be working again!
love the gamble.....is one end hooked enough to hold side on its own???
