    Families that play together...

    ... stay together.

I’ve been planning for a while to take my 9 year old Grandson for an over night camp. Recently, I had sussed out where a nice fat Fallow was living, so last last night James and his Dad (CraigC) and my self headed off for the camp out and hunt. Sure enough, the deer was where I had been seeing him, and CraigC secured it with a nice shot at 211 yards with his .223 and 55 grn Barnes TTSX. All very exciting for James (not to mention Grandad)

The pics pretty much tell the story.

I’ve got a vid of a hind and fawn we watched and other bits and pieces, but that can come later.

Fantastic Tahr. That fat is ridiculous.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Toby, I trim it all right off (the fat). There’s always enough left in the seams to keep it moist, but I don’t find deer fat very nice. Its quite strong. Probably why people recommend putting mutton fat in with venison sausages.

I love a veni steak with a touch of fat on it, i even go so far as to trim all the fat over kidneys and inside fillets to cook it in!

That is a good call Tahr. I find deer fat goes rancid much quicker than the fat on other meats.
